Where can I buy a bike?
You can find excellent deals on brand new or second-hand bikes online on Gumtree With Gumtree, you are able to pay on collection and in cash. So do not feel the need to advance any money to any seller even if they demand this. Dr Bike, from the charity Re-Cycle, also visits Colchester Campus (usually on Wednesdays) offering free checks and providing servicing, repairs and affordable second-hand bikes.
Where I can hire a bike?
Colchester Sports Park provides bicycles for hire at up to £10 per hour. They also rent out helmets if you do not have one. For e-bikes, you may want to consider Colchester eCargo Bike Library for £10 a month. There is also a community rental scheme called Fat LLama where you can rent bikes from fellow users at very affordable rates. Another e-bike rental is New Town Bike Hub run by local volunteers.
Bus
The main bus operator is First Bus and you can get discounted student tickets ranging from a 7-day pass to a 365-day pass for the whole year. Apply for your student pass here.

Train
Can I get Student Discounts on Rail Travel?
Access to London and the wider UK is served by an extensive rail network from Colchester Station. We highly recommend you apply for the 16-25 Railcard which saves you 1/3rd off the price of any rail ticket. If older than 25, you can apply as a mature student. It costs only £30 for the whole year and is renewable if you are staying beyond a year. You can apply here.
Where can I buy train tickets?
Once you have got your Railcard, we recommend you use the Trainline ticketing platform to buy your ticket. You can download the app here and not only use it to purchase tickets but also check timetables and updates.
REMEMBER!!! Before checking-out, make sure you include your Railcard in order for your 1/3rd discount to be applied. Also remember to carry your Railcard with you (whether physical or digital) as it will be checked on the train by the train conductor.
