Where can I buy a bike?

You can find excellent deals on brand new or second-hand bikes online on Gumtree Gumtree. With Gumtree, you can pay only on collection and in cash. So do not feel the need to advance any money to any seller even if they demand this.

Where can I hire a bike?

If you are at the University of Nottingham, you may want to consider the U-cycle bike hire scheme which arranges bikes for hire for students.

If you are at Nottingham Trent University, there is a bike hire scheme operated by the University through their Cycle Hub which is located behind the Students’ Union on city campus. At the start of year, there are over 200 high quality hybrid bikes available for hire. When you rent a bike from the Cycle Hub, you also get a free D-lock, freee bike lights and a free winter maintenance session. It costs only £49 for the year and a £60 deposit which you get back when you return the bike on time and in satisfactory condition.

Other local bike shops you may want to consider are: Bikes Love You, Bikeworks, Bunneys Bikes and The Bike Shop.

  • Bus/Tram

UoN offer the Hopper bus services which is a free inter-campus bus service from the main University Park Campus to Sutton Bonington Campus, Royal Derby Hospital Centre, King’s Meadow Campus and Jubilee Campus. You can view the timetable here.

The Robin Hood card can be used for access across all of Nottingham’s public networks including on buses, trams and trains. There are 3 types of tickets you can get: a paper ticket, PAYG (Pay As You Go) smartcard or season pass (including an academic year pass for students). If you are going to be a regular user of public transport, we would recommend getting a smartcard and then using it as you need it. Here are the comparative prices for students and young persons (if you are under 19 years old).
